Quick Summer Camp FAQ
How can I register for Summer Camp? Are there days when Wildarts Summer Camp does not operate?
Regsitration for Wildarts Summer Camp is on a weekly basis. Wildarts Summer Camp runs 6 weeks in the summer beginning with the week of June 30th and ending with the week of August 8th. We operate Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM except on July 4th.
Wildarts Summer Camp will close in accordance with the Department of Education school, camps and afterschool emergency closings (such as inclement weather) when ordered. Families will be notified when Wildarts Afterschool is closed due to an emergency.
What do we need to know about arrival and dismissal?
Wildarts Summer Camp drop-off begins no earlier than 8am at the big green Wildarts table through the PS 163 entrance down the long driveway W. 97th street. We offer a rolling arrival--feel free to come when you like. Keep in mind, if you arrive late, you may miss part of the activities for the day.
Wildarts also offers rolling dismissal. You can pick your child up at the big green Wildarts table whenever you like. Please keep in mind that students who dismiss before 5:30PM will miss some activities planned for the day. When you arrive before 5:30PM to pick up your child, it may take some time for them to stop their activity, pack-up and make their way to you.
Field Trip Dismissal: Wildarts will notify families when we expect to return from a field trip so you can plan when to pick up your child. We ask for patience and flexibility with this timing. Moving in large groups can take time.
How are students assigned groups in Wildarts Afterschool?
Wildarts Participants are sorted by age into color-named groups. Each group follows a weekly schedule with art and movement activities that rotate daily. Your student may be moved into a new group as the Summer progresses so we can balance staff/student ratios and personalities. Wildarts cannot accommodate group placement requests. We thank you for your understanding and flexibility. You can find our group schedules by clicking on your group above!
What is the meal/snack like?
Wildarts provides a free meal at breakfast and lunch furnished by NYC School Foods. Wildarts encourages families with dietary restrictions to look over the School Foods Afterschool Menu and provide an appropriate snack from home if the meals are not suitable to your participant's needs.
There may be delays in meal service which are out of our control. In this case, we will ask families to pack snacks and lunches. Please understand that Wildarts cannot refund or discount programs due to delays in meal service--this service is offered for free to us and food costs are not accounted for in your tuition payment.
What do we need to know about Water Days and Field Trips?
Wildarts Summer Camp incorporates Water Days to beat the heat twice per week. We often incorporate water games such as Sponge Relay Races, Water Balloon Bonanza, and Water Rocket Wars. For water days, please send your children in swimwear with a towel, change of clothes and water shoes (if you have them) in their backpacks.
Wildarts Summer Camp has Field Trips once per week. Wildarts families receive daily email updates about our programs, so you'll have information about our field trips in advance. Keep an eye on these emails for special instructions related to arrival and dismissal times on field trip days, special items you may need to bring, or whether or not to pack a lunch.
Is there a nap time for very young participants?
After lunch and outdoor play, all 3k and Pre-k children have nap time. We have access to cots. Please send a sleeping bag or blanket for your child to make them more comfortable for nap time. We aren't able to store their sleeping bags or extra clothing so we ask, if you can of course, to bring these items on a daily basis.
Wildarts may be able to help you apply for free Wildarts Summer Camp tuition through HRE Childcare Vouchers, ACS Childcare Vouchers, or the Wildarts Scholarship Fund.
